Michele Schanker Photography bio picture

Welcome to the Michele Schanker Photography Blog!

Who Am I? Simply put I am a photographer, engineer, runner, hiker, biker, skier, and frequent traveler.

Welcome to the Michele Schanker Photography Blog!

We focus on Photojournalistic Lifestyle Photography. What does that
mean? It means that I like your photos to look natural. Therefore I photograph
kids and babies at home or in a comfortable setting such as a park. I like to take on a modern style which offers unique angles and locations. We do not do any
studio photography, eveything is done on location at a place that most
suits you and/or your family.

I love capturing special moments, emotion, and the interactions of
people. I photograph couples, children, babies, maternity, and weddings.  This blog serves as my online photojournal that
consists of my photoshoots and also a few of my traveling adventures
too.

Michele Schanker Photography is an award winning photographer: 2009 Antelope Valley Fair (Lancaster, CA), Professional Category

Iceland Part 1 | International Travel Photographer

In September of this year my husband and I traveled to Iceland for 2 weeks. We like to try and do a big vacation every year. We’re still not sure how we picked Iceland. I remember talking about Brazil and the amazon, then somehow Iceland got on the radar. Being that we prefer cooler climates and not melting in 100 degree weather we chose Iceland! What a beautiful country! Seriously amazing. I wouldn’t want to live there but its a great place to visit. I have a lot of photos I’d like to share, so this post is going to be kind of long. Although I am breaking it up into two posts. Some of the things we learned about Iceland:

  • people don’t mind leaving their babies outside of stores to sleep in the stroller
  • there is hardly any crime and its all minor stuff
  • there is a volcano that when it erupts will be much more powerful than the one in 2010
  • there are more sheep than people
  • the sheep graze in the highlands in the summer and then are herded down for winter
  • most of the country lives in Reykjavik
  • the Icelandic horse is truly pure bred..no other horses are allowed to enter Iceland and if an Icelandic horse leaves Iceland it can’t come back.

Enjoy the sights of Iceland!

This is from a very volcanic area of Iceland. In fact this is volcanic rock. WE had great lighting here all day long!

On this day we had gray weather all day, but the clouds parted just in time for sunset! Our hotel was on this lake.

Tips for a wonderful session:
Urban sessions are designed to be fun and unique. Think bright colored walls, alleyways, busy streets, and brick buildings. So come with a great and fun attitude. Little girls in tutus are fantastic! Props are great too. Kids with giant lollipops or carrying balloons make for wonderful shots. Winter hats on the little ones are extremely cute. Think of things you like to do or make you unique. Bringing a prop that displays this is always a great idea. Basically think out of the box a little bit. If you need some help, shoot me an email and I’l try and get those creative juices flowing. :)

Also, make sure to coordinate your family’s clothes, but not so they are all matching. Simply make sure the colors are complimentary.

Senior Class 2012 : Min {Denver Area Senior Photographer}

I had the pleasure of taking Min’s Senior photos this weekend! You’ve seen her on my blog before since I’ve been taking photos for her family for almost 2 years now.

They live in Elizabeth, Colorado. Which is quite a quaint and cute area. Min had two parks in mind that she really liked for two different reasons. One for an awesome tree, which I have to admit was pretty cool, and the other for the pond. Since we started shooting at a little after 6pm, we ended up with some great light to work with.

Enjoy the photos!

Yellowstone National Park

The weekend of 4th of July, my husband and I set out on a road trip. We had been skiing up at Jacskon Hole several Year ago, but never got to go to Yellowstone NP. So off we went. We packed the car with camping gear and set off for 3 days at the park to sightsee and hike.

Breck In Breckenridge; Denver Area Pet Photographer

Meet Breck!!!!

1

He is the newest addition to our life! As you probably know, I love to ski. My husband and I really love the town of Breckenridge, so when we got a boy dog the first name that popped into my head was “Breck”. We found this cute and adorable 1 year old lab at the Boulder Humane Society! His name at the shelter was Sampson. Dave really, liked that name. I kinda liked it to, but felt that we should give him our own name. So it was decided that his name should be Breck Sampson Schanker.

In April, Dave and I decided to take a Friday off and travel to Breckenridge for a long weekend with Breck. We found a pet friendly condo, skied for a few days, and spent our evenings walking Breck on Main Street. Of course the trip would not be complete without Breck’s First Photoshoot!
