  • WELCOME!

    Welcome to Michele Schanker Photography!

We are a modern and contemporary photography studio based in Thornton, CO. However we serve most of the Northern Denver Metro area including Boulder.

We specialize in kids and infant portraits. But we are also available for your wedding, family, and high school senior photography needs.

We offer all custom photography sessions. Meaning we find out what you like/don't like, a special location that you would like to shoot at, and if you have any products in mind. This is not a box studio experience we are committed to personalizing all sessions to your wants and needs.

Winter Session in French Gulch

Earlier this week I met up with this fun and wonderful family. We decided to go for a different area for this shoot. One that I have had my eye on but never used for a photo shoot. I have to say I loved it but wearing boots in the winter is a must!

Traveling To Breckenridge in the Winter but not skiing?

Are you traveling to Breckenridge but not planing on skiing? I thought Id put together this blog post to help with some activity planning. As I am writing this we are currently in Red and moving to Orange for COVID. Unfortunately this means some of the activities I normally recommend for little kids are not going on this year. It is also important to note that our activities this year are limited on participants and requiring reservations. So please plan ahead. I am not addressing the normal tours in this post such as dog sledding, snow mobiling. I wanted to address from different ideas.

Activities directly in Breckenridge:

  1. Ice Skating. You can go to the Stephen C West Ice arena or there is a small rink at Peak 8 as well.
  2. Talk a Walk/snowshoe/cross country ski on Boreas Pass Rd. Drive up Boreas Pass until you reach the parking lot. It’s only about 2.5 miles. The road is closed at this point. Get out and take a walk on the road. The views are gorgeous!
  3. Go see the Troll. The troll is located in the southeast corner of the ice rink parking lot. It is a very short walk to get to the trail.
  4. Take a winter hike or snowshoe. There are many trails for this. Unless it has just snowed recently, most likely the trails will be pretty packed. Meaning you can just walk or use some Yak Trax for extra traction. If you are staying in the warriors mark area there are some really nice trails behind all the condos. Sallie Barber Mine is another good winter hike.
  5. Visit one of our nordic centers for groomed trails. You can check out the Breckenridge Nordic Center or the Gold Run Nordic Center.
  6. If you have little kids, put on your snowpants and visit one of our playgrounds. There is the High Line Railroad Park and River Park. River Park is off of Airport Road and Highline is on Boreas Pass (near the ice rink)
  7. Try out a fat tire bike. You can rent in town or at the Gold Run Nordic Center.
  8. Sledding at Carter Park or the new man made hill on Airport Road. Another idea is to find your own hill to get away from the crowds. You will need a sled unless you can find someone who is leaving and not taking their sleds.
  9. If you like wine, go for a wine tasting at Carboy or Continental Divide. If you prefer whiskey then go check out the Breckenridge Distillery.
  10. Country Boy Mine offers tours all year round.

Activities outside of Breckenridge (in Summit County)

  1. Tubing at Keystone, Frisco Adventure Park, or Copper Mountain. You can even rent tubes at the the Keystone Nordic Center but here you have to walk up the hill (There is no magic carpet).
  2. Go visit Sapphire Point. There is short trail you can walk and it offers gorgeous views.
  3. Take a drive to the top of Loveland Pass.
  4. Sledding hill in Frisco. There is a sledding hill directly across from the Frisco adventure center.
  5. Take a winter hike to Rainbow Lake in Frisco. Depending on the time of the year the lake may be frozen.
  6. Walk around the Frisco Historic Park
  7. For kids, Rainbow Park in Silverthorne and there is a small hill for sledding too
  8. Dillon Marina Playground and walk near the lake.
  9. Ice skating at Keystone. Keystone offers a couple of ice skating options.
  10. Sled Riding at Maryland Creek in Silverthorne

Stay tuned as I plan on updating this post for some activities outside of Summit County as well.
